Lifespan vs Healthspan
How long do you want to live?
Let’s choose living to age 100.
You know, if you hit that age in the England the Queen used to send you a Birthday Card. Her son King Charles continues this tradition. It is a bit of a goal in the UK….to live long enough to get the card!
Ok, so you would like to live to be 100 years old, a very long lifespan. But what if you are weak, ill, bedridden and miserable at the age of 80. Do you still want to live to be 100?
That’s a bleak outlook isn’t it. But aging to 100 does not have to be that way. If you take care of your body you can have a long lifespan and a long Healthspan.
Your Lifespan is the number of years that you live and your Healthspan is how many of those years that you are free of disease, illness and injury, feel well and have a good quality of life.
Well, I vote for Lifespan and Healthspan both at 100 years old. I know that I want to be out in the garden enjoying a beautiful day when I’m 100. Lifespan is a mix of your genetics and your lifestyle, Healthspan is mainly your lifestyle. SO, take care of yourself with nutrition, exercise, positive emotional health, getting enough sleep and do some FUN things in your life! Let’s “Do Lunch” when we are 100.
